Notables

  • Before we get into the 11 notables, I would like to announce the 4th last Tour Champion for this season. As you all know we have champions named in 13 divisions each year. This year, already nine have been crowned and the last three will be within the next few days. Today the final was played in the C Division. ShortStack and JMoney are all square after 18. Go below and read what BigThunder has to say in the last quotable.

  • Notable ONE … Ironically, there sure is a mix of opinions on Pace of Play. Of course – I am one to say that golf is a three and a half hour round – with a little room to maybe be as late as four hours. On the group sheet – there is a question about pace. Today the 21 sheets come back with comments ranging from fair – good – great – poor – awful and “to be expected”. That last comment worries me – that we find it acceptable to play five or five plus hour round. I truly believe that if everybody honoured the pace contract that they signed, then our last groups {the Bs} should have been teeing off at 5:38 on their last hole.

  • Notable TWO … Welcome newcomers Berng, Boy, Mr.Hyde, and YipMeister, whose first ever Slammer round is his best score of the year. His 77 would have been a lot better last weekend when he didn’t make the cut in the “B” club championships. Well today he played match and went 3-0, TP’ed Bookie and starts his Slammer career at #56. Hambolo, ParBreaker and FlagonDry all returned, to different results … it has been a while!

  • Notable THREE … Marking your doggy ball before putting. Integrity and a few good men. Have you heard? We sure do have some golfers full of integrity on this tour. Nothing surprises me about the three Slammers about to be mentioned here. First off a couple of weeks ago – when I was writing my report for the Whitetail event, I challenged all to read up on the slammer rule B3. I had just found out – that IF you don’t mark your doggy ball before you hit the putt – then you CANNOT go back to do it. Well I announced it in that report and Intruder approached me a week later – gave me back his fifteen bones and it has gone to the kids. He had been guilty. I said “don’t worry about it NOW! He insisted. Well today at Loch March, another honourable gentleman on the Tour, had the Culligan Water doggy on hole #13 {YES that one over the water.}, it was Woodsy. The third classy Slammer mentioned here is pointZero, he steps up to hit and it is honed in on the flag. Wham he hits the pin, and when the ball stops, he is two feet inside Woodsy. He putts, and then putts again. Voila, BUT he forgot to mark his ball. He knows the rule. Word gets back to the 19th. Woodsy – tries to give pointZero the 91 bones. He refuses, Woodsy tries to split it. No Way! So I challenge you all, remember this rule and all act accordingly. Thank you Intruder, Woodsy & pointZero.

  • Notable FOUR … Eagle alert – Duker, who just joined the Tour last Saturday and is playing in only his 3rd event, is the 93rd Slammer to record an eagle. His was the 163rd eagle recorded in our stats. How did he do it? His drive went 275 yards, then from 209 out hit a solid five iron to within eight feet, and Eagle putt. By the way – this is Duker’s ninth EAGLE, this year.

  • Notable FIVE … Power rankings – do you know what that is? Today power ranking group one had 4 Slammers all competing for the Open division club championship. They came in with scores of 151-165 over two rounds. They shot 77-79 today and all matches were ended on the 16th, or later. Woodsy went winless and Fodder was undefeated. Today the top five rankings on the tour have been altered.

  • Notable SIX … GaspeBoy again led the field by beating his scoring median by the most strokes – by now I have to ask – what IS YOUR scoring median? Having only played six events – it takes a while for the median to kick in – his average is more like 77 and thus he was only a minus 4. Danger (-7), Deter, Billiards & ProZee (-5), were the top five, on beating their medians. How come in such pristine conditions – the scores were so high?

  • Notable SEVEN … pointZero hits an apple out of a tree. Today there were many leaves, apples and acorns that were seen or heard a dropping shortly after a ball went through the branches. I remind you all about the Slammer Tour’s “house rule. It is rule E5 – know it? When it kicks in?

  • Notable EIGHT … once again I owe a great big thank you to Lucky. He was your Doggy Master today and had to do the measuring, and even acknowledged the Danger of naming a doggy winner by using a short cut of a name. Remember that Duke is NOT Duker, chill is NOT Chilly, and that Happy is NOT Happy Hooker.

  • Notable NINE … and I urge you to read the second last quotable by that MOST adorned Slammer. Ticklar says after finding out that only 3 of the 36 birdies were good enough for a skin.

  • Notable TEN ... I apologize to my group. They had to witness the vomitting / hurling / upchucking / ralphing / cookie tossing. But I apologize because when we saw pointZero taking pictures I said that he has 1000 on our Facebook site. Actually, he has posted 2167. Thank you pointZero.

  • Notable ELEVEN … Granpa’s first two victories of the season have him as the #2 ranked D player on the tour. If he had been able to play last Sunday – he would have been in the Club Championships, and the look of the final three in D would have been very different.

  • "Damn tough crowd!

  • "I believe I was 4 down after 7, fought back to 1 up with one to go. Jman wins the 18th. Go off number 1 for first playoff hole, he hits 300 down the middle I hit 260 down middle, I hit into bunker he hits short. Both chip on and miss par putts. Gimmie bogies to each. Number 2 - the par three. JMan hits into bunker. I hit to back left of the green. He chips onto fringe. I make a 60+ footer for bird to win in dramatic fashion. No fist pump or anything, I was speechless." Anybody believe that ShortStack was speechless? JMan want to rebuttal?
