Smuggler's Glen

Sun Oct 14, 10:30 am

Coordinator: Grumpy

The scene is set. Shorty, Rugged as always, ever so carefully walked forward, his cleats just at the Cliff's Edge. He gazed down into Serenity Valley and tossed The Rock. They're off! Shotgun time, thirteen groups taking off on seven holes. Basically the threat of rain kept everybody away. Hindsight being 20-20, we could have spaced out a little bit more. Honestly speaking, there was the occasional spitting from the clouds above. I never donned my rain pants, nor opened my umbrella.

Notables

  • Notable #1 – The Gorge, or to Hacker, the drainage ditch. Hazy and Dyke both birdied it.

  • Notable #2 – With his 7th 100+ score this month, Gator slips back down to ‘D’ Division. When he stood atop the Upper Ridge, he put his ball in the cup in two strokes, good enough for the dog, birdie, skins trifecta.

  • Notable #3 – the best the Field could Settle for on this hole was five pars.

  • Notable #4 – Bio Challenge – when the Pro Tour was here last month, they removed the Bio stakes and replaced them with red ones. We were instructing the Slammers of the environmental warning when Randy (Smuggler’s staff and Ti-Cat fan) informed us of the change.

  • Notable #5 – Coyote – This wild dog was no match for Alluken who collected his 1st career doggie in his 5th event.

  • Notable #6 - we head on over to Wild Creek where Hazy got an eagle yesterday. Today not even one bird.

  • Notable #7 – Rolling Meadows gave up a skin to Malone.

  • Notable #8 – Lower Ridge – PizzaMan copies Gator’s Upper Ridge feat.

  • Notable #9 – We move over for a River View and Popeye gets a birdie.

  • Notable #10 – Bull’s-Eye – Popeye’s recruit, friend, and planned playing partner, The Apostle, relates that he just had a birdie. Bull’s-Eye became bull expletive when the two pals realized they had cut each other off. Primo is successful for our third trifecta of the day.

  • Notable #11 – Hawks’ Valley – no eagles, no birdies, but Irons did join RipZone and Kaki in a snowman making contest.

  • Notable #12 – After a night of poker, Malone’s birdie on The Gambler didn’t win him any bones. Thanks Hazy!

  • Notable #13 – The Rock gives up another birdie to Malone this time cut off by cousins RipZone and Dyke.

  • Notable #14 – Serenity Valley – Grumpy lost a ball on his 2nd shot of the day (what a great drive!). IronMaiden found it four hours later when her group went through the Valley. Note to group that played in front of Grumpy. That ball never passed the cart path.

  • Notable #15 – Sure was a Rugged hole! The best that 53 Slammers could do over two days was 9 pars. The Apostle and Alluken did it twice

  • Notable #16 – Last year Shorty gave up an ace on both days. Today, SunShine and Dyke had the birdies and Dr. U had the doggie.

  • Notable #17 – Cliff’s Edge was the place where Malone had his 8th birdie this weekend. Yesterday’s pumpkin was close to that edge and on the next hole 'drive", PizzaMan’s ball was given back from the Cliff.

  • Notable #18 – The Green Monster. This one is not at Fenway Park but #18 had 18 snowmen over the two days.

  • Notable #19 – There is usually no shortage of recordable and reportable activity at the 19th hole. This 19th notable goes out to those two playing partners who got the trifectas on the Ridges. After putting out on their first hole of the day, somebody reminded everybody “mark your scores on the 14th”, they didn’t!
