Welcome to this report of the 2015 season's final event. This is the 317th event of our outdoor season. Was it a success? Let's see - it is November 15th and we have 17 groups. That is 67 golfers and not one was a NO SHOW. You tell me! Of course we missed some of our most active Slammers. #1 (in events) Juice, #7 Mulder, & #9 GoTee were all missed. We are often asked about handicaps - did you know that we actually had 47 events played outside of the handicap season (those games would not be able to be used for your handicap)? Today we crowned the year end #1 in twelve divisions. This was our largest (beat the previous high of 51) final event ever. We played at Canadian and there was Dale, as always providing all of the assistance that we needed. Dani Seabrook actually did ALL of the work. Your rookie OC made a glaring error. He didn't ask about rakes. There were none! I don't like to be too liberal with such things as Lift Clean and Place, even though it is customary to allow such things when the sand traps are rakeless. However the bunkers at Canadian are so well maintained that even hitting a sandy that was in the middle of a footprint was not very difficult. The Tour's longest standing D player was in bunkers five times and had only five shots. Tour's management led by our own Malone, once again did a fantastic job of making the best game in town be even better. The event closed at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, yet seven more golfers were accommodated - almost without hiccup. A great nineteenth hole, complete with visitors, and the usual jocularity. Now go read the report and KNOW that each group's starting hole is mentioned and with a little work - you can figure out all. See you all at the Slammies on December 4. Come out for this annual year end banquet - where we honour all of the award winners. AND next season will start Tuesday November 17, 2015.

Notables

  • The first notable is kind of a reminder about our Tour Playoffs (can you say Fedex Cup?). Our Playoff is called November run for #1. We do so in each category and therefore we lock in top fours. Most Slammers don't understand the reason why ... if they beat someone but don't get to move up in the overall rankings - it is all explainable and everybody in each division, is treated equally. As an example I will use one scenario - it happened today in group 15. Duke went 3-0. #82 Grumpy 2-1 (yes tis true!), #129 Gazzif (1-2), and #53 Gator 0-3. Two Ds upset a C, but neither can move up the ranks because they would end up ahead of the D top four (ranked about 70-80 before the day's events). How can Grumpy & Gazzif end the year ranked 53 & 54 if the top Ds are below 70? I promise you that I can explain to each and every one of you - what happened to you, and/or your division during the November run.

  • Irons - I would like to stress how great a job this first time Doggy Master did. Large event - one of the largest, and these events are very VERY seldom including a rookie (master) at such an important role. WELL DONE FeS! For those of you reading along at home - Irons would like to thank Lucky and Kids Club for their measuring of one hole each. Also he would like to thank Kookie for her assistance with counting and sorting, AND lending him her doggie purse.

  • Great match play on the final day. Twenty-eight matches were decided on the 18th. Fifteen other matches ended on #17. Eight more on the previous hole. Over fifty matches decided in the last three holes. Of course we played a shotgun and if you really wanna see what holes the matches ended on - go to the bottom of the page and change the starting hole.

  • Slammer Tour in November! Where else are you going to find 11 golfers score (where score doesn't matter - because we play MATCH play) 80 or less. Of course being an equal opportunity league - we almost had that many over the 100 as well.

  • THANK YOU Commish! BUT had I known earlier - my brothers in the D class - especially Cracker on Saturday would have seen a different Grumpy. OK I digress, back to thanking the Commish. Starting this year end, there is an additional prize for the divisional #1s. The Commish (9) will buy a round for all of the number ones each year.

  • Some groups missed out on the instructions - missed a turn or two on the course, and may have not had an adequate PoP. The floggings are being done later.

  • MILESTONE alert. Iron Maiden (2A) went 2-1 today and became the third Slammer to reach (2200 career points). Last weekend she was also third to get doggy #200. BearCat (was 39th to get his 500th point. Intruder (9) is #50 to reach 400 in his career. Dracula (8A) has a free Slammer shirt on the way, for today's event is his 100th and now his picture is on the Hall of Fame. Do you know where to find those pictures?

  • Bobo (8A) had a great putt on 17 for his back to back birdies. Sixty six feet, with breaks and hills to get over. He left Canadian today with the most bones - 159 to be exact!

  • Have you heard of that guy McGoop? Grumpy picks on him a bit (or according to Juice - see the last quotable), well today we did a little comparison. Prior to today he was 100 skins ahead of the Slammer in second place. His birdies? 235 in 80 events. The Slammers in 2nd, 3rd, & 4th place - add up theirs to be about equal, but in three times the number of events.

  • Fourteen Slammers went 3-0, Weasel (5A) had the low score of the day, Nivlac (6B) was the only other one to do so by beating three Slammers ranked higher. Big Guy (5B) & Biscuit Oshumka also had no losses in their three matches.

  • The Champions? As I go through the list - I will mention their starting hole (I was on 1).

  • Ladies D winner (was actually crowned yesterday), as she was in the TC earlier in the season, Orange Crush (8A) is first champ.

  • #1 D didn't even make the cut for the final last year, but hangs on today. Biscuit Oshumka wins over BigGuy on their 18th (they started on 5B) hole to half the match and successfully defend for the closest RUN!

  • Ladies C had a reverse in the final from the semi-final. ZenGirl (7A) didn't have to put her #1 up on Saturday. She played #2 SunShine and lost. Today she made up for it when it counted, and won 6 and 5.

  • C on the men's side was won by a golfer who missed the D last year on the final putt. BearCat (4B) wins in the division filled with many MOST improved candidates.

  • Halestorm wins the junior - and I challenge you all to recruit / sponsor a junior.

  • In the B division, today's Slammer who went 3-0 was FingZ (1B). His birdie on 17 was the last serious shot for the day as he shook Habib's hand.

  • The Super Seniors (7B) had a great day with close matches and four pretty evenly matched Dudes. Their scoring medians were only 7 apart. Potter wins 2 and 1 over Ace.

  • Ladies A & B were combined to make it a Ladies Open. Dr Pepper (2) gets the bye on Saturday, but falls on the 18th hole to chill's par. Good news this year, after winning the RUN, chill is NOT on her way to the hospital.

  • Very close A division with 82,82,82,84 scoring medians. Smitty (6A) leaves here today as #1. His closest competition? DaGoaler needed a birdie on their last hole to draw and defend.

  • Senior was another division that had no change. ProZee (8B) ends the season not only as the #1 Senior but also #1 overall. Before applying the starting hole feature at the bottom - it looks like he won on holes 13, 14, & 14. He actually beat them all on hole 2 (their 12th).

  • Open division was NOT won by McGoop (don't hate me Juice!). Woodsy (3A) has a par on their 18th to the McGoop's bogey.

  • The last three groups to be mentioned contained a Leafs hoodie (3B), a Steelers toque (4A) ... and NO not Steel Crazy (6B), and the last rookie - Seeker (#2B) to win a free entry into the Ottawa Sun Scramble.

  • REMINDER - throughout the website there is a sprinkling of the new feature - it is a purple circle with yellow writing - check it out and try it.

  • Quotables

  • "We are the little golf league that grew and Gru (9)!"

  • "Hello you Supers. How is it going?" "Well we are all trying to give it to each other."

  • "I am ONLY 66!"

  • "The PoP is so slow that I had time to go to Timmie's for a coffee." "Did you take the cart?" "NO! I had time to walk."

  • "What's the deal? Super Seniors having to start the furthest away from the clubhouse? Is there a message?" "Hey guys it was just so that you get warmed up to play."

  • "I only sank one putt and that required a ricochet off of Iron Maiden's marker."

  • "Who is the kid on the course? OH that's ShortStack!"

  • "Keystone! I thought that they made rims."

  • "Hey it wasn't boiling hot out, but at least it wasn't boiling cold neither."

  • Pace of Play - "It was a bad start, but with the great finish, ended being a decent pace."

  • "We get to play in November."
